Long, long ago, the kingdom of the North was ruled by king Wilhelm – once the strongest and cleverest of all the inhabitants of the kingdom, now devastated by a deadly disease. He had two sons. The younger one was called Asgrim, the older one Agnarr. Both, from an early age, fiercely competed with each other, seeking the favour of their father. After many years of rule, the old king was about to hand over power to his older son. Jealous Asgrim didn't want to let that happen. To gain an advantage over his older brother, he turned to the forces of darkness. He sold his soul in exchange for great knowledge and an incredible ability to wield magic, thanks to which he could summon Valran – a demonic raven who wounded his enemies on command.
One night Asgrim sent Valran to his older brother's chamber and ordered it to hurt him. The raven gouged out his eyes. His wife was witness to the event, awakened by terrifying screams. The woman ran out of the room, waking all the inhabitants with her scream. The news of the tragedy reached the old king. Enraged, he condemned his son's deed and cursed him forever. Asgrim, banished from his native land, will have to become a wanderer forever.
Over the years, he became more and more insane, while losing his humanity. His heart has become a frosty land that overwhelms with its emptiness.
